Direct primary care & functional medicine

With more than 17 years of experience in healthcare—from bedside nursing across Maine to becoming a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner—I’ve seen firsthand how often traditional care focuses on treating problems only after they appear. That experience inspired me to create Smart Healthcare: a place where care can move at a more thoughtful pace, concerns can be explored more deeply, and patients can receive the personalized support they deserve.

My background includes urgent care, orthopedics, and occupational health, along with advanced training in Functional Medicine, women’s health, hormone therapy, and cardiometabolic health. I bring these areas together to help you better understand your current health, identify contributing factors, and create realistic, sustainable next steps.

My goal is for you to leave every visit feeling heard, supported, and confident in your plan—with clear priorities, meaningful milestones, and ongoing guidance along the way.

    LCSW

In a fast-paced world, it's easy to lose touch with yourself — showing up as anxiety, overthinking, depression, or a quiet sense that life feels out of alignment. I'm Emily Small, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I help individuals reconnect with themselves and build a life that feels more grounded and authentic.

I believe healing isn't about fixing what's wrong, but gently returning to who you are beneath fear, self-doubt, and old patterns. My approach is collaborative and compassionate, drawing on attachment-based, CBT, mindfulness, and person-centered methods to create space for insight and self-understanding.

I work with teens, adults, and elders on concerns ranging from anxiety and trauma to relationship issues and life transitions — offering a space to slow down, listen inward, and reconnect with what matters most.

REIKI, POLARITY & CRANIALSACRAL THERAPIST | RN

My goal is to help people reconnect with their authentic selves, find greater inner peace, and create space for their body's natural healing abilities.

By combining my nursing background with holistic healing practices, I offer a compassionate, personalized approach to wellness. I believe that releasing stagnant energy and emotions that no longer serve us allows for greater balance, clarity, and healing.

I offer Reiki, Polarity Therapy, and Craniosacral Therapy, with each session tailored to your individual needs.

Reiki channels universal life force energy to encourage relaxation and healing. Polarity Therapy works with the elements of Ether, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth to restore energetic balance throughout the body. Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle technique that may help relieve TMJ discomfort, headaches, sinus and ear issues, and neck and back pain.

Sessions may also include chakra balancing, aura clearing with crystals, and an oracle card reading to offer additional insight and guidance.

My intention is to provide a safe, nurturing space where you can relax, restore balance, and support your healing journey. It is an honor to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your true self and experience greater harmony and well-being.

    LMT | RCST | MMT | CPT

My work is shaped by years of study with highly respected educators in manual therapy, movement science, and biodynamic craniosacral work. This combination of advanced bodywork and nervous-system-informed care allows me to create sessions that are highly individualized, responsive to what your body needs in the moment, and grounded in current pain science — effective for both acute and long-standing issues.

My training spans biodynamic craniosacral therapy, myoskeletal alignment, functional movement, corrective exercise, and advanced myofascial techniques, with continued postgraduate study in nervous system regulation and trauma resolution. I'm also a certified Personal Trainer, which allows me to integrate corrective exercise directly into sessions to help clients reach their goals.

It's a comprehensive, whole-person approach designed to help you move with more ease, comfort, and confidence — combining precise hands-on work with the calm, restorative quality clients often notice right away.

    Jamie Gendell

    LMT

With 7 years of CNA experience, I wanted to find a more meaningful way to help people heal — one that addresses how stress and trauma show up in the body, not just the symptoms on the surface.

My work is rooted in nervous system regulation, trauma-informed principles, and whole-body healing. I specialize in relaxation, sports, and deep tissue massage. I'm passionate about supporting clients dealing with chronic tension, headaches, and stress-related pain — shifting from the sympathetic nervous system "fight or flight" state and into the parasympathetic "rest and digest".

Through a thoughtful blend of modalities, I tailor each session to what your body is asking for that day.

My intention isn't just temporary relief, but meaningful, lasting change — helping you reconnect with your body, restore balance, and move through life with greater ease.

Outside of work, you'll find me hiking, playing guitar, writing music and hanging out with my cat.

  • Aly Shannon

    LMT

I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and graduated from the New Hampshire Institute for Therapeutic Arts in 2023. My training focused on Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, neuromuscular therapy, reflexology, and a variety of other therapeutic modalities.

Through my work, I support clients in reaching their individual wellness goals by helping enhance the body-mind connection, ease tension, and encourage structural reintegration. I also incorporate lymphatic and circulatory techniques to support clients who are seeking a seasonal reset or a gentle way to restore balance within the body.

I continue to cultivate and evolve my practice as a Licensed Massage Therapist. I also enjoy learning about additional holistic modalities, including herbalism, breathwork, and sound therapy. Outside of my work and studies, you can usually find me tending to my plants, spending time outdoors, or working on art projects.

  • Elsie Johnson

    RN

With 12 years in healthcare — starting as an EMT and later as an ER nurse through COVID — I've seen firsthand how important it is to support your body before it reaches a breaking point.

After years of working in a high stress environment I was searching for a change and that’s what lead me to Smart Wellness. Here I can slow down, get to build a relationship with my clients and provide safe, high-quality care in an environment where people feel comfortable enough to truly rest and reset.

My goal is for you to walk out feeling refreshed, supported and confident in your care. I’m honored to be a part of your wellness journey and can’t wait to care for you.

Outside of work you'll find me hiking with my dog, camping with my husband, doing yoga, or tending to my plants.
